Preliminary Announcement - NATIONAL GARDENS SCHEME comes to Northern Ireland.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of David Cook last week. David was husband to one of our ex committee members Fionnuala Cook OBE. David was frequently one of our willing volunteers at Open Gardens. We extend our deepest sympathy to Fionnuala and the family circle.

Owing to the proposed fundamental change in governance arrangements between the National Trust and the Ulster Gardens Scheme, the Ulster Gardens Scheme committee have, with great reluctance, decided that they are unable to continue to operate the scheme.

Holding Statement:
The UGS Committee are sad to report that for a variety of reasons the Open Gardens Scheme is not likely to operate in the 2020 season.
The hard working committee are in discussions to attempt rescue the situation!
More information will be released as soon as there is any update on the situation!

DUE TO FAMILY BEREAVEMENT THE OPENING OF THE GARDEN of Mr Michael and Mrs Geraldine Galloway, Downpatrick this weekend HAS BEEN CANCELLED

This coming weekend there will be two different Open Gardens - One in Downpatrick, Co Down and the other in Kesh, Co Fermanagh.

The annual Ulster Gardens Scheme Luncheon will take place on Sat 2 March 2019.

Open Garden on Saturday 11^th and Sunday 12 August 2018 from 2-5 pm at the home of Mrs A Buchanan at 28 Killyfaddy Road, Magherafelt, BT45 6EX

The next Open Garden will be on Sat 7th and Sunday 5th August 2018 from 2-5 pm at the home of Mr & Mrs Wm MCkelvey at 7 Mount Charles North, Bessbrook, Newry, BT35 7DW

The Garden of Dr & Mrs Z Huda at 50 Killyman Road, Dungannon, BT71 6DE will be open on 

Sat 7^th and Sunday 8^th July from 2-5pm

The next Open Garden will be on Sat 30 & Sun 1st July 2018

Thursday 16th November 2017 at 7.30pm in the great venue of the Old Courthouse, Antrim.

Join members of the Ulster Gardens Scheme Committee and garden owners for our very popular annual review, when we look back at another successful season’s garden visiting on behalf of the National Trust, and enjoy a light supper.

An admission charge of £5.00 (including supper) per person will be made, to avoid a drain on National Trust funds.

Pre-booking is essential, as numbers are strictly limited.

Mixed informal gardens with abundant herbaceous borders and flowering shrubs. Lawns and paths lead through mature camellia, magnolia and rhododendron under-planted with vinca ‘major’, white daffodils, trillium etc (this area is attractive, natural and wild, but no longer in flower by June). There are also beautiful views over surrounding fields, woodland and hills, woodland walks, azaleas etc. and a vegetable garden.

The second opening of this season will be the Garden of Lorna and John Reid, 3 Cedar Lane, Station Road, Craigavad, Holywood BT18 0BW
This true plantsman's garden is situated within the original estate of the historic Lorne House, built in 1875 by Henry Campbell, a wealthy linen merchant.
